Somalia: Twenty six illegal immigrants from Somalia were arrested Tuesday when Police in Mombasa smashed a human smuggling syndicate. Confirming the incident, District police Chief Patrick Wafula told the Kenya News Agency in his office that the immigrants were arrested aboard a Nairobi Bound bus at a road block by police in Miritini along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway at about 2.00am.

Wafula said the twenty - six men aged between 30 and 40 years did not have any official travel documents.

He said the immigrants are being interrogated by the anti-terrorism police unit to establish under what circumstances they found their way into the country, agency news said.

The OCPD said that police became suspicious after the illegal immigrants asked for a Somali translator as they did not understand either English or Kiswahili.

He said the suspects would be charged in court for flouting immigration procedures once investigations were complete.
