Alok Stone Monoliths

The sculptured granite stones represent human figures and are considered sacred by the local people. Their age is not known but the earliest may date from the 16th century. They represent an advanced form of stone carving, as the granite is a hard crystalline rock, requiring a great deal of labour to produce such precise work. Other stones are to be found in the area, some in deep forest. Another site is in a grove at the roadside near Meghawe, a little beyond the mile 111 sign on the Enugu-Ogoja-Gboko Road. An annual festival is held there at the end of the dry season.
