Sinai Water Sports - Sharm El Sheikh Watersports

Water sports in Sharm attract hundreds of tourists every month. Why? You may ask. Well, simply because the place is so divers that you may find here wind, suitable for wind surfing and kite-surfing as well as not windy areas suitable for water -skiing.

Even if you are just a beginner, don't panic, as the professional instructors (who by the way speak such European languages as Italian, English, German and Dutch - and sometimes Russian) will give you all the details on how and what you should do. They will also provide you with the necessary equipment, but you will have to pay for it an extra sum of money.

If you want to make a splash then Sharm El Sheikh has some great water sports on offer. Lessons are available if required from many of the water sports centres. South of Naama Bay is Sharm El Maya, this is a protected area and offers perfect conditions for water skiing. Banana boat and speed boat rides are also available from many of the beach fronts. Just opened in March 2006 is Cleopatra water sports Ancient Egypt theme park which is a must to visit. Keep also in mind that on the territory of most of the clubs there are bars and restaurant where you can eat and spend a wonderful time with your family and friends.

Kiteboarding in Nabq - Sharm El Sheikh

Kiteboarding is a highly cool and exhilarating new water sport that is fast making its way to beachside resorts around the world, and is without doubt the most fun you can have in the water!

In a nutshell, what you do is fly a large inflatable kite, strap a board to your feet and then go zipping across the water, or jumping high into the air! It’s a bit like wake boarding or snowboarding, but the kite gives you a fantastic source of power that you are in control of.

To begin with you will get taught some basics about wind theory, how to fly a kite, how to launch and land and the safety aspects of the sport; but on your first day you will get the chance to feel the huge power of the kite as you use it to pull you bodysurfing through the water.

Pretty soon – usually on the second day – you will find yourself in the water with a board on your feet, and with your instructor saying the immortal words: “Dive the kite! Dive the kite!” At this point you will likely whisper things to the kite and possibly pray, but after a few false starts, a bit of a wobble and a few tips from your instructor, you will soon be skipping across the flat blue lagoon – an exhilarating feeling for any watersports junkie and a great sense of achievement!

The first few days give you a real feel for the power of the kite and a great sense of how it feels to be kite boarding. Of course this is just the start, as you will soon be hooked; and be rushing to the window every morning to check the wind!

Water Skiing in Sharm El Sheikh

Water skiing is a sport and recreational activity invented in Lake City, Minnesota in 1922 by Ralph Samuelson and is popular in many countries around the world where appropriate conditions exist - an expanse of water unaffected by wave motion. Rivers, lakes, and sheltered bays are all popular for water skiing. Standard water skis were originally made of wood but now are usually constructed out of fibreglass-based composites. They are of similar length to downhill snow skis but are somewhat wider. Instead of a rigid binding, they have rubber molded binding, in which the skier's feet are placed. Skiers are pulled along by a rope with a handle fitted at one end and attached to a powerboat at the other.
Red Sea Kiteboarding

Red Sea Wakeboarding

Wakeboarding is one of the fastest growing, coolest and most fun ways to take to the water. Wakeboarding is a bit like water-skiing, but instead of having two longs planks attached to your feet, you stand on a single wide board. It’s a bit like snowboarding on the water and has often been described as ‘an exciting mix of snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding’. You just climb into the speedboat and prepare to get extremely wet.

After a few tips from your instructor, and a major battle to get your feet into the rubber bindings, you are told to get into the water and assume the correct position while the boat revs its engine. Numerous thoughts run through your head. Will I be able to do it? Will it hurt if I fall off? Why am I here?

But as the boat moves off, and you slowly realise you are gliding above the water instead of being dragged through it, it's a great sense of accomplishment! Once you're up, it's actually quite easy to stay afloat and enjoy the experience as you're pulled along behind the speedboat. Scream with glee as you battle the waves, come out the other side and feel victorious.

Wakeboarding is easy to learn and extremely good fun to do. It’s amazing how easy it is to pick up and one thing's for sure - once you've tried it you'll want to do it again and again.
