Travel Around:

Air: Some domestic flights are provided by Mali Tombouctou Air Service and light aircraft can be chartered from the Société des Transports Aeriens.
Road: Traffic drives on the right.
Sea and Lakes: Between July and December there are weekly services between Bamako and Gao via Timbuktu along the River Niger.
Rail: There is a daily service from Bamako to Kayes en route to Dakar on the Senegal coast. There are two trains, Malian and one Senegalese.
Driving: International Driving Permit recommended

Passport and Visa: Required, but NOT by the following:

  1. Holders of National Identity Cards or passports expired a maximum of 5 years issued to nationals of Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cote d' Ivoire, Gambia, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo & Tunisia.
  2. For a stay up to one month by holders of valid Seaman Book travelling on duty with an embarkation order issued to nationals of France.

Passport validity: Passport must be valid 6 months from date of entry.

Visas: Required, but NOT by the following:

  1. Nationals of Mali
  2. Nationals of Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cote d' Ivoire, Gambia, Guinea, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo & Tunisia
  3. Holders of a re-entry permit. Notes: There is no transist accomodation available at the airpot and a transit visa is therefore advisable.

Recommended Immunisation: diphtheria, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, malaria, meningitis ,polio, TB, tetanus, typhoid. Recommended in some circumstances, seek further advice.

Compusory Vacination: Yellow fever certificate required by all. Exempt infants under 1 year.
