Natural Features: Tropical, rainy with two seasons. Semi-arid in the north-east. Mostly plateau with a rim of mountain.

Accommodation: Budget accommodation can be found in all towns but Kampala has the widest range including Namirembe Guest Hostel and Pope Paul Memorial Centre. For more up-range facilities, the Kampala Sheraton, Grand Imperial and the Windsor Lake Victoria in Entebbe provide high class accommodation.
Post and Communications:There are post offices in most major towns, and public telephone booths are dotted in most towns and trading centers. International calls and faxes may be made at post offices or Starcom kiosks. There are internet cafes in Kampala.
Tipping: Tipping is not mandatory. However porters at the airport and hotels expect to be tipped.
Food: There are a good number of restaurants in Kampala that serve international cuisine. For local dishes try the lunch-time buffet at Sambo Restaurant on Parliament Avenue. Fang-Fang Restaurant on Kampala road serves Chinese meals.
Culture: The national museum on Kira Road holds historical artefacts dating back hundreds of years. The National Theatre usually hosts local plays although most of the time they are acted in a local language.
Entertainment: The nightlife in Kampala involves drinking lots of beer accompanied by roast chicken or pork and then dancing the night away at Club Silk, Ange Noir or Vipers Room. For movie lovers, the Cineplex cinema shows the latest releases from Hollywood every night.
Shopping: Local crafts can be obtained cheaply at roadside markets. Always bargain. Souvenirs can be bought from crafts shops at Pioneer Mall and at the National Theatre in Kampala, and on High Street Mbarara. If you are in Kabale , look out for the beautifully carved stools that are on sale during the weekly markets.


Getting There:

Air: Entebbe International Airport is a 40-minute drive from the capital city, Kampala. International Airlines that make regular flights to Entebbe include British Airways, Alliance Air and Sabena
Rail: There is a train service from Nairobi
Road: There are daily buses scheduled for Nairobi, Kigali and Bukoba in Tanzania
