Somalia: Four parliamentarians step down

Somalia, Apr 3: Four renowned Somali parliamentarians have reportedly resigned from Somalia's transitional government, fleeing to Kismayu port town.


The parliament members led by former warlord, Barre Adan Shire Hiirale, left Baidoa for Kismayu, a town 528 km (328 miles) southwest of Mogadishu. We became members of Somali parliament with hopes to bring about unity and resuscitate Somalis from devastation. Every effort nonetheless proved to be fruitless, they stated, press TV report said, Meanwhile, Kismayu's Marehan clan chief, Abdullahi Dhere, has welcomed the former lawmakers vowing to protect them against government forces.
