Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe said reports that he had surgery in Malaysia are, in his words, "naked lies" put forth by Western-sponsored media. The president, who turns 87 next month, returned to Harare from a trip abroad late Sunday.During an interview with state television, Mugabe said he had been on an annual vacation in Singapore, and denied he had been in Malaysia.Last week, diplomatic sources in Zimbabwe and South Africa said Mugabe was in Malaysia to be treated for a prostate problem.Mugabe appeared fit and is scheduled to attend an African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, later this week. The president also said Sunday that if Zimbabwe's inclusive government does not agree on a new constitution, he has the right to dissolve parliament and call for new elections under the old charter. The constitution-writing process is running several months behind schedule.President Mugabe and his ZANU-PF party signed a power-sharing agreement in 2008 with Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, the leader of the Movement for Democratic Change.Under terms of the deal, the government can continue until 2013. However, many in ZANU-PF say the government expires on its second anniversary next month.Mugabe has ruled Zimbabwe since 1980, when the country won independence from Britain.
