60 Bodies Found in Ivory Coast's Main City

Red Cross officials say at least 60 bodies have been found in the Ivory Coast city of Abidjan, as the government tries to clear out die-hard gunmen who back former president Laurent Gbagbo.The aid agency said many of the bodies have been recovered in the commercial city's Yopougon suburb, where troops and remnants of a Gbagbo militia clashed on Tuesday. The government of President Alassane Ouattara is attempting to restore peace and security to the West African country after months of political unrest.Violence broke out after Mr. Gbagbo refused to give up power following a November presidential election in which Mr. Ouattara was declared the winner.Mr. Ouattara took over the presidency last month after his supporters, backed by United Nations and French forces, captured Mr. Gbagbo at his residence.The power struggle between the two men took the lives of hundreds of civilians and drove an estimated one million people from their homes.Some information for this report provided by AFP and Reuters.
